Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been arrested and booked with grand larceny in Las Vegas, charges that stem from the theft of personal items police say he took from an ex-girlfriend on Thursday morning, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Friday.

Mayweather was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Nevada at about 1:45 a.m. ET, the Review-Journal reported, citing police. Mayweather does not face domestic violence charges because it would be a misdemeanor, and the incident occurred more than 24 hours before the arrest, though police will submit that case to the district attorney’s office, the newspaper reported.

Police had sought Mayweather for questioning Thursday about a domestic battery report filed by Josie Harris, his ex-girlfriend who recanted a similar claim in 2005, police and his lawyer had said.

Mayweather, 33, has been arrested several times over the years on battery and assault allegations.

He was acquitted by a Nevada jury in July 2005 after being accused of hitting and kicking Harris during an argument outside a Las Vegas nightclub.

At trial, Harris, the 25-year-old mother of three of Mayweather’s children, testified she had lied to police because she was angry Mayweather left her for another woman.

Mayweather, 41-0 with 25 knockouts, earned more than $20 million in May from his fight in Las Vegas against “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
